Maxim Larrivée, director of the Montreal Insectarium, looks at images taken by a solar-powered terminal, designed to take a photo every 10 seconds of insects attracted to UV light. The insects present in these images are then identified on the Antenna platform, at the Montreal Insectarium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, October 1st, 2024. Artificial intelligence to protect ecosystems...and discover new insect species? This is the gamble taken by Canadian researchers at the Insectarium, who have invented a system capable of doubling the available data on insects within 5 years, in the hope of halting the steep decline of these species. "This is probably the most important project I've completed in my career," says Larrivée. (Photo by Sebastien ST-JEAN / AFP) (Photo by SEBASTIEN ST-JEAN/AFP via Getty Images)
